The Atomic Soul

Posted by Nivi on 7:57 PM
I have been listening to some religious sermons and was pleasantly surprised that Mr.Velukudi Krishnan's discourses are extremely interesting. It is the nice story telling format, with the fact that he does not add an ounce of unnecessary information that makes it almost fun to hear. Not to mention, the man does not flounder for words at all. Amazing , I say!

Anyways the thing that amused me today, was a particular thing he said about the soul.
The soul is atomic according to our scriptures. Atomic therefore implies that which cannot be broken down in to further parts. Once I heard it, I immediately thought of Horcruxes. Call it not being "well-read" in the scripture space. i will plead guilty to it. But this is what I remembered. I remembered JKR's idea about splitting the soul. How its the most heinous thing ever, and how it takes evil means to do so.

This just made me think that there is some kind of unifying thing about humans. There have been innumerable parallels drawn between the great civilizations of the bygone era, numerous studies on the similarities between the great epics, the religious scriptures. The underlying human belief in many areas seem to be the same. How else would you expect an english woman say almost the same thing as something that has been said in our scriptures before 1000's of years!

I think that was what made HP almost a classic...JKR used classic themes like good vs evil, friendship, desire and fear. Didn't Dobby remind you of Hanuman, or Snape (in a weird way) of Karna? So I guess the themes are relevant whatever be the age.

I love listening to Velukkudi Krishnan...he uses such a rational approach and comes up with the most amazing analogies. On an unrelated note, I wonder whether you've listened to Vishaka Hari. She's more devotional than spiritual; she's an awesome storyteller!

Even I was thinking that souls were atomic - until I came across a worm, which, when cut into two, becomes two distinct worms :) In other words, I can actually make 32 worms out of a single worm with a blade. What kind of conscience would exist in these worms, I dont know :)

That is so true Nivi.. I have felt that no matter what culture you take, the history tells us the same story about mankind.. the thoughts and how we handle situations has never changed.. people actually have not changed from what they were long long ago(as far as we have dated records of it).. yes.. brains' developed.. tools developed.. civilazation grew.. but our thoughts are all connected.. so is our history.. I have always been fascinated by the similarities in Greek and Indian mythology.. and also the similarities in the preachings of various religions.. it really binds the world together.. I felt this ever so strongly when I read The Alchemist!! .. the connection of this with what you said - I read somewhere in Wiki that perhaps long long ago we had Aliens come down on earth who were more powerful than these humans and they were depicted by humans across the worlds as Gods! Though its a conception, I felt it atleast seems to answer our questions on why devargal never stood on Earth and always floated ;) ..

Agree very much with Suchiitra.. and Nivi.. you should listen to Visaka Hari.. :)
