Role Models

I have never been a fan of role models. No, this is no attempt at trying to look cool or anything . Just that I have always thought of it as a ego letdown to try and be someone or follow someone or simply wanting to be someone.I strongly believe in not following anyone from tip to toe on making our lives. Each one of us are so different.Following anyone absolutely can only result in mega disappointments. Having said this, its however very useful to listen to a lot of people and see which parts of their lives maybe makes more sense to us.

In a sense my whole idea changed yesterday when I heard Brad Smith -CEO Intuit Inc speak yesterday. In my view he took public speaking to a different level. I have heard many speakers do the "Things I have learned.." speech but this one kicked every other speech's ass.It was the perfect way to speak. The deck( powerpoint slides, a very popular california lingo, i learned) just had pictures and the main idea and he cruised through them with very interesting stories. I mean very!THe sheer energy the guy brought to the table was brilliant. Adding to that , he had a really cool southern accent. I dont know why people regard that as bad. I thought it was pretty cool. Made him stand out from the rest like he said. I absolutely loved it.

There were a lot of things he said during the talk that made me go wow. I definitely had a lot of takeaways from that talk. I was not going to make him my role model. No. but there were so many things from that talk that could be applicable to life as such which was awesome. I am definitely going to be remembering the stuff he said and try to implement them. That is for sure.Only because what he conveyed and the way he conveyed them was just out of the world. And a huge thing I learnt was how to give a talk. This is a talk , not any of those other, I-am-reading-from-the-deck ones.

Wow. I loved it. He was amazing. you had to be there to feel the magic.
